“Look, I know you say he’s cute, and all that stuff. But he makes you feel like shit, you know? You’re a total catch and any guy would be psyched to be your man. You should just make room for somebody who’s nice to you.”
— Lillian, The Bridesmaids
“I’ll do or say anything if I believe in it, but I have to believe in the cause.”
— Stephen, Ides of March
“Show me ‘you’re love is eternal’ face. No. That’s two years. Four years, tops. That is not eternal.”
— Don (the store owner), Bridesmaids
It was more feel good. Nothing can top the carrots for flowers scene. Not even the the dancing in Times Square. Haha. Comparing the two leads, Kutcher is just more adorable. JT seems like the kind of guy who can and will most probably have sex with you for sex alone, no emotions involved. To be honest, why would you want someone like that?
Caught it with Sheryl tonight. Entertaining, smart and sad. I’m noting down some of the themes in my reflection. Some of them, weird. Dunno. Maybe its just me. Haha.
- Exploitation of the poor through “art” - that they think they have to make that kind of movie to be recognized, that Eugene thinks it was the way to win an award.
- Dissociation of the rich from the reality of poverty - the scene were the filmmakers posed for pics with the shanties in the slums as background, acting as if Payatas was a tourist attraction. HOMAYGOD. spell insensitive.
- Oppression, not as the deprivation of resources but as the denial of possibilities - the scene where the poor kids were asked if they’re okay with being fed with noodles everyday and they kept saying yes and yes and yes. they don’t know there are other kinds of food.):
“For what it’s worth: it’s never too late or, in my case, too early to be whoever you want to be. There’s no time limit, stop whenever you want. You can change or stay the same, there are no rules to this thing. We can make the best or the worst of it. I hope you make the best of it. And I hope you see things that startle you. I hope you feel things you never felt before. I hope you meet people with a different point of view. I hope you live a life you’re proud of. If you find that you’re not, I hope you have the strength to start all over again.”
— The Curious Case of Benjamin Button
“Most days of the year are unremarkable. They begin, and they end, with no lasting memories made in between. Most days have no impact on the course of a life. May 23rd was a Wednesday.”

500 Days of Summer
(aka Today Tom met Autumn)

In real life, you only get one shot. Once you blow it, it’s gone. When you let people go, unless they are family, they don’t really come back. But this is reel, not real life. We are allowed to a happy ending.
I hate it and love it for the same reason… stripped down, its the quintessential Pinoy movie. Love you, JL. Lolx.
“Alex: I thought our relationship was perfectly clear… You are an escape, you’re a parentheses from my normal life.”
— Up in the Air, 2009

He’s gone ten million miles up in the air. Ten Million Miles. Its a wonder when will he finally land. And when he danced with her, rubbed his nose on the skin of her shoulders, held her hand like he wouldn’t let go —it was though he’s already found a good enough reason to stay. It broke my heart to watch the look on his face as she opened the door. “You’re a parentheses…”, that was definitely unexpected.
The movie is bittersweet. It’s a perfect reminder of how life screws you right when you think you’ve got everything figured out. Haha. Not funny! Nice one, George Clooney. <3
